Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information BetBuddy collects when you use the app, how we use it, and who else is involved in making the app work. We've tried to keep it short and human-readable.

Who we are

BetBuddy ("we," "us," "our") is a mobile application that uses AI to analyze photos of horse racing forms for entertainment and informational purposes. The app is operated by the BetBuddy developer. You can reach us at hello@getbetbuddy.com.

Information you provide

When you use BetBuddy, the following data is sent from your device:

• Photos of racing forms. The images you capture or upload are transmitted over an encrypted connection to our backend, which then forwards them to OpenAI's vision API for analysis. Photos are used only to produce the analysis you requested.
• Strategy preference. Which of the three handicapping strategies (Predict, Value, Handicap) you've selected, so the analysis can be framed accordingly.
• Scratched horses. If you mark horses as scratched before uploading, that information is sent so they can be excluded.
• Authentication token. A token issued to your device so our backend can verify requests come from a legitimate install. This token is not tied to a personal account and contains no personally identifying information.

Information stored on your device

Most of what BetBuddy keeps lives on your device only and never leaves it:

• Your saved bet analyses (titles, strategy used, structured results).
• Your selected default strategy.
• App preferences (whether you've completed onboarding, etc.).
• Your authentication token, stored in the device's secure storage.

Deleting the app removes all of this data.

What we don't collect

• We don't ask for your name, email, address, or phone number to use the app's core features.
• We don't collect location data.
• We don't run third-party advertising trackers or behavioral analytics.
• We don't sell, rent, or share data with data brokers — full stop.

Third parties involved in delivering the app

To run BetBuddy, we rely on a small number of service providers. Each one receives only the minimum information needed to do its job:

• OpenAI — processes the photos you upload to generate the racing analysis. OpenAI's data handling is governed by their API data usage policies; data submitted via their API is not used to train their models.
• Apple App Store / Google Play — process subscription payments and deliver app updates. Payment information is handled entirely by the platform — BetBuddy never sees your card or bank details.
• RevenueCat — manages subscription state on our behalf so we can verify you have an active subscription. RevenueCat receives a pseudonymous identifier tied to your install, not your name or email. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
• Linode (Akamai) — hosts the BetBuddy backend that receives your photo uploads and forwards them to OpenAI. Server logs retain request metadata (timestamp, request size, response status) for a short period to support debugging and abuse prevention.

How long we keep things

• Photos: images are processed in-flight and are not retained on the BetBuddy backend after the analysis is returned. OpenAI may retain the request for up to 30 days for abuse-monitoring purposes per their API policies.
• Server logs: request metadata is retained for up to 30 days, then deleted.
• On-device data: kept until you delete it from the app or uninstall the app entirely.

Children

BetBuddy is intended for adults of legal wagering age (18 or 21 depending on your jurisdiction). The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, please contact us and we'll take appropriate action.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete information we hold about you. Because most of what BetBuddy stores lives on your device, you can exercise most of those rights yourself by deleting bets in-app or uninstalling. For requests involving server-side data (such as deleting account-related logs), email us at hello@getbetbuddy.com and we'll respond within 30 days.

International users

BetBuddy's backend is hosted in the United States. If you use the app from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the US. By using the app you consent to that transfer.

Security

We use HTTPS for all network traffic, store secrets in industry-standard secure storage, and limit who has access to backend infrastructure. No system is perfectly secure — if you discover a security issue, please email hello@getbetbuddy.com and we'll investigate quickly.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, notify users in the app. Continued use of BetBuddy after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
